Welcome to our Windhall Retreat Lodges nestled in the heart of the Lake District.

This charming log cabin on our hilly working farm is the ideal base for adventure or relaxation in Cumbria. There are breathtaking views over the rolling Lake District countryside and the West Cumbrian Coast - best of both worlds! Views stretch inland towards Scafell Pike and Wasdale, and over the coast from Morecambe Bay to the Isle of Man.

The log cabin features central heating, a log burner, and an inviting open-plan living area. Two lovely double bedrooms with a king-size bed and quality bedding allows comfortable space for two to four guests. You can relax in the hot tub and, if you are a fan of cold water therapy take a dip in the plunge pool (available on request).

A five-minute hop in the car takes you to walks along Seascale or Drigg Beach, and from your door, you can explore the hills around Gosforth. It's only a ten-minute drive to the shores of Wastwater (England's deepest lake) which sits below Scafell Pike (England’s highest mountain) and we are close to the Three Peaks route. The Wasdale area is well worth the visit. Outdoor enthusiasts can delve into various pursuits in the breathtaking Lake District National Park, or have an adventure along our stunning coast.

Due to our open-plan facilities with log burner, we can't allow children to stay at the cabins.

Bring your four-legged family.

Dogs are welcome to join you on holiday in our log cabins. There is a charge of £50 per dog (up to two allowed).

Stables and grazing are available so you can bring your horse on holiday. We have high-quality stabling and turnout for your horses and ponies. Please contact us to add and pay for your equine friends.

If you have any questions just drop us a line on the contact page or book here.

      What our guests say

      Short drive to excellent beaches

We had a great stay at Wind Hall log cabin. Fantastic views all around, lots of great walks and a short drive to some excellent beaches which our two border collies loved. The wood-fired hot tub was fab and was all set up with kindling and wood ready to be lit.

      We would definitely visit again

We had a fantastic time at this beautiful location. Eggs, bacon, milk a selection of tea, coffee and biscuits were left by Ellie to keep us going until we shopped. Loved the fact that they used environmental toilet rolls (Who gives a ****). Ellie made us most welcome, she was very friendly and told us about the local places to visit. The weather was pretty awful but that did not stop us visiting the lakes and surrounding areas. We would definitely visit again.

      One fabulous place to stay

What a lovely lodge, clean comfy and a great location overlooking The Lake District Hills one way and the coast the other. Ideal for a quiet and peaceful getaway with plenty to do if you wish. Hot tub was a bonus, especially after coming back from a day’s walking. Ellie was so friendly and a great help with the local knowledge, recommendations of where to eat, shop, visit etc. Thank you Ellie. One fabulous place to stay and I highly recommend it.

      Truly a home from home

Excellent secluded location with amazing views. Great comfortable cabin and wood fired hot tub.  Fab location for exploring the surrounding villages, towns and hills. Abundance of choice in quality food and local produce, be that in bakery, cafe or restaurants. Extremely helpful and welcoming family. Truly a home from home, we will return.

      Everything you could need

Great value for money and one of the cleanest lodges we’ve ever stayed in. Everything was in excellent condition & had everything you could need for a short stay. The hot tub was well situated at the property to allow views of the mountains and the sea, whilst at the same time remaining very private. It’s only a 15 mins walk to the village of Gosforth (it’s all uphill on way back).

A memory we will always cherish

Thank you for allowing us to spend our Valentine’s Weekend here. It will become a memory we will always cherish. The cabin is beautiful alongside the views we had the privilege of seeing….. This stay really meant a lot to us, so thank you Sarah, we wish you nothing but the best!

      Made to feel very welcome

The holiday was really good – lots to do and see had a great time. The cabin was very clean and tidy with great facilities and I was made to feel very welcome. I was left a packet of bacon with eggs and milk was a very nice touch. Slept well the bed was very comfortable and a nice living area with a nice log burner. I used the first until the heating kicked in, and had a nice hot tub to relax in. Had a great time – would strongly recommend this cabin to anyone

Lovely hot tub for stargazing. 12 out of 10

Stayed over at Windhall for a couple of nights, visiting friends. The Lodge was immaculate, cosy & nicely furnished.
The views over the surrounding area were spectacular & sunset, sunrise was amazing.

      Ideal location

What can I say? What a lovely break and stay here. The weather has been good to us. Hot tub is a must, and so is the log fire. Never felt cold when in use. A must is to try the walk around the nearby forest (Blengdale). You have to go to the observation area and it’s so dog friendly.
Such an ideal location to base from to see many other sites. We will be back. Thank you ever so much for the best stay.
